A: The length of time varies depending on the size of the job and the level of finish desired. For instance, a small garage is always a one day project, an entire 1500 sq ft house is about 3 days and a 20,000 sq ft warehouse could take between 2-3 weeks.

A: The cost of concrete polishing depends on several factors, including the size of the project, how many rooms there are, the level of finish desired and whether you add color staining. We’ll provide you with a detailed estimate that includes all costs associated with the project and many options for your budget.
A: Absolutely! We have extensive experience in selecting the right finish for each project. We’ll work with you to understand your goals and recommend a finish that will meet your needs.

A: Yes, we offer color staining services to give your floors a unique and personalized look. We use high-quality products that are designed to last and enhance the durability of your floors.

A: While we recommend letting the sealer cure overnight, you can use the floor within a few hours of completion. However, we advise against placing heavy furniture or equipment on the floor for at least 24 hours.
A: Polished concrete floors are only slippery when wet. We recommend placing mats or rugs in areas that are prone to moisture, such as entryways or bathrooms. When dry they are ADA and OSHA slip compliant, even the glossy finishes! This is why so many big box stores and restaurants choose this flooring.
A: To maintain the shine and durability of your polished concrete floors, we recommend occasional sweeping, mopping with a neutral pH cleaner, and occasional resealing every few years if your area is high traffic. We can provide recommendations for cleaning products and maintenance schedules.
A: Polished concrete uses very little chemicals during the finishing process. Due to the low cost to maintain, as well as not needing chemical treatments during the refinishing process, a polished concrete floor is LEED compliant.
A: To polish concrete, we use large floor grinders with diamond tools of various grits to grind and refine the surface until it shines. We start with a low grit and work our way up to a high grit, usually stopping at 800 grit. The number of steps depends on the floor and the desired look. The initial grind is the most important step and determines the level of aggregate exposure. We can go up to 3,000 grit for higher gloss. After grinding, we apply a sealer for stain protection and to enhance the sheen slightly. Polished concrete is very durable and does not require wax or coating. The floor can be used within a few hours of completion, but we recommend letting the sealer cure overnight.
A:Concrete floors are a great flooring choice for sufferers of asthma and allergies. Concrete floors don’t support mold growth, dirt and pollen plus won’t trap the dust and dust mites that other floor coverings do. This is a suitable floor solution to those who suffer from allergies and asthma.
A: Yes! Pet friendly for many reasons, including
• they are nontoxic
• they resist pet odors and stains better than any flooring
• they are easy to clean if you’re puppy training
• they are scratch resistant (unless you have energetic doggys with ungroomed paws)!
• they don’t trap fleas, tics or mites
A: We hear this often since concrete flooring can be cold, but no more so than ceramic tile or natural stone flooring. If used with direct sunlight, the floor can absorb heat that slowly releases throughout the rest of the day which other floor surfaces can’t. Concrete has the reputation of looking cold, but by pairing your floors with warm colors and materials your home won’t look cold. Additionally, throw rugs go far in creating a warmer, more cohesive look.
A: Newly poured concrete slab will need a minimum of twenty-eight (28) days.
A: Chips, cracks and other imperfections will be ground out to clean the area, and then grey filler is poured in. This filler is as strong as concrete and will create a smooth, cleanable surface. Large imperfections will not be made perfect throughout this process. Areas that have been trenched or have floor drains and other structures within the floor will be treated the same way.
A: At Gem, we specialize in providing high-quality concrete polishing services. We do not pour concrete slabs or perform epoxy or topping installations. Additionally, while we do offer grind and seal work for covered patios, we do not currently offer outdoor work beyond this scope. We believe in being upfront with our customers about our capabilities so that you can make an informed decision when choosing a contractor for your next project.
